How Long Does My Nissan Warranty Last?

July 26th, 2022 by

Every year, J.D. Power ranks automobile manufacturers based on quality and dependability, and each year Nissan receives top honors for their vehicles. In 2021 alone, Nissan took home four J.D. Power awards. J.D. Power looks at those vehicles with the fewest problems reported in the first 90 days to determine the brand winner for Quality. For their Dependability ranking, J.D. Power looks at those three-year-old vehicles with the fewest reported problems over the previous 12 months. While 2022 models have yet to be ranked, industry experts anticipate Nissan will continue to garner their share of recognition.

Nissan proudly accepts these awards but understands that sometimes breakdowns happen. That’s where your Nissan warranty comes into play. You get one of the most comprehensive warranties in the industry when you purchase a new Nissan. So if you’re considering upgrading your San Antonio commute with a new Nissan, we had our warranty experts create this guide to the Nissan warranty program to help you understand the level of protection you’ll enjoy.

2022 New Vehicle Limited Warranty

This warranty starts the moment you drive your new Nissan off the lot. Your Limited Warranty breaks down into separate categories, each with its own coverage rules.

Basic Coverage

Your basic coverage lasts for three years or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first. The basic warranty covers repairs for any defects in workmanship or materials of all parts and components in your Nissan, except for parts covered explicitly under separate warranties.

Powertrain Coverage

Your powertrain coverage lasts for five years or 60,000 miles. You’re covered for any repairs to correct defects in materials or workmanship in components to the engine, transmission, transaxle, drivetrain, and restraint system. Your engine’s cylinder heads and block, including every internal part such as your valve train, timing chain, fuel pump, water pump, oil pump, intake and exhaust manifolds, seals, gaskets, fuel injectors, flywheel, turbocharger, and oil pan are covered here.

Your transmission parts covered include the case, all internal parts, torque converter, and housing, transfer case clutch cover, A/T cooler, automatic transmission control module, electronic transmission controls, seals, and gaskets.

Within your drivetrain, you are covered against defects in material and workmanship to your drive shafts, universal joints, final drive housing, all internal parts, propeller shafts, bearings, seals, and gaskets. You also have protection for all your airbags and related operational systems that control them.

Corrosion Coverage

You receive protection against corrosion, otherwise known as perforation from corrosion. Perforation results in rust that goes through any metal body sheet or panel on your Nissan provided it occurred during normal use. Your coverage lasts for five years, no matter how many miles you drive.

Towing Coverage

Should your Nissan require towing due to a warranted part failure during coverage limits, you’ll receive coverage that pays to tow your Nissan to the nearest dealership for repairs.

Adjustment Coverage

Sometimes, a failed part requires adjustments to your Nissan after the repair. Such adjustments include wheel alignments and balancing. These covered adjustments typically apply only for the first year or 12,000 miles.

Intelligent Key, Key Fob, and Wiper Blades

Nissan covers your key fob or Intelligent Key batteries for 12 months. Your wiper blades come with six months of coverage.

No Charge for Warranty Repairs

Nissan won’t charge you for parts and labor on any warranty repairs, with a few possible exceptions. For example, tire repairs might come with certain charges if repairs aren’t covered under any applicable tire warranty. In addition, Nissan only uses Genuine Nissan or Nissan-approved new or remanufactured parts. Using these quality parts ensures that your vehicle will run the way Nissan intended when it rolled off the assembly line. Nissan technicians adhere to strict repair processes approved by Nissan, guaranteeing your car gets fixed the right way the first time.

What Isn’t Covered?

Nissan does have some general exclusions and other conditions that might void your warranty. For example, you must properly use, maintain, and care for your vehicle according to the owner’s manual. You must also keep all your maintenance records for Nissan to review, including any data stored on your vehicle’s systems. Failure in any of these areas will likely result in denial of your warranty claim.

Failure to operate your car according to your vehicle’s owner’s manual, such as improper towing, racing, or competitive driving. Your warranty doesn’t cover theft, vandalism, fire, accident, collision, being towed, or flooding. In addition, repairs made by anyone other than an authorized Nissan dealer will void your coverage.

Normal wear and tear such as dents, dings, scratches, chips, and broken glass would have no coverage unless the damage occurred due to defects in materials or workmanship. In addition, any damage caused by a car wash or pressure washer also has no coverage under warranty.

Modifications made to your vehicle could also void your warranty. At South Park Nissan, we know some drivers love to up-fit or modify their cars. However, we recommend you look at how specific modifications might affect your warranty before having the work done. In some cases, simply using aftermarket accessories can void your warranty. Tampering with a vehicle odometer will also void the warranty.
