2022 San Antonio Winter Events

With average daily highs of around 67 degrees through the season, there’s no need to hibernate during winter in San Antonio. This Texas city turns on a range of entertainment to suit all tastes and budgets. Here are just a few of the fun events happening in San Antonio over the winter months.

SeaWorld Christmas Celebration

SeaWorld San Antonio turns on the biggest light display in Texas during its annual Christmas Celebration . More than nine million lights set the scene, bringing a festive atmosphere to this popular theme park. Visitors can meet Santa Claus and Rudolph. O Wondrous Night recreates the nativity, while Elmo’s Christmas Wish show and Sesame Street Christmas Parade delight younger guests. Special festive ticket add-ons like the Christmas Traditions tour and dinner with Santa and Mrs. Claus can make your night at SeaWorld special.

Location: SeaWorld San Antonio, 10500 SeaWorld Drive.

Hours: 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. most days Nov. 10 through Jan. 2.

Cost: Single-day tickets start at $79.99 at the gate or $44.99 online.

Lightscape

Over a million festive lights come together at San Antonio Botanical Garden for this new holiday tradition, now in its second year. Favorite Lightscape light installations from last year, like the magical Winter Cathedral, sit alongside dazzling new displays. Seasonal music enhances the atmosphere as you stroll down the one-mile garden path. Roast s’mores over an open fire and revel in this winter wonderland. Purchase your tickets early, as multiple nights sold out last year.

Location: San Antonio Botanical Garden, 555 Funston Place.

Hours: 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Nov. 11 through Jan. 8.

Cost: Standard tickets are $28 for adults, $18 for children ages 3-12 years, and free for children under 3. Garden members receive a $2 discount.

Zoo Lights

If you haven’t had your fill of holiday lights, be sure to check out the illuminated displays at Zoo Lights , San Antonio Zoo’s annual holiday event. Charge up your phone, because there are plenty of photo opportunities along the miles of twinkling trails including the 124-foot light tunnel and IllumiLIFE art display. If you walk up an appetite, indulge in the zoo’s holiday snacks. You can also save your legs with a ride on the Holiday Sing-a-Long Express. Keep your eyes peeled for Santa, who’ll meet and greet guests each night.

Location: San Antonio Zoo, 3903 N. St. Mary’s St.

Hours: Nightfall from Nov. 18 through Jan. 1.

Cost: Zoo Lights is free with standard zoo admission of $23.50 for adults and $18.57 for children ages 3-11. Admission is free for children under 3.

Holiday in the Park

Six Flags Fiesta Texas embraces the festive season with its Holiday in the Park program. Along with all the usual heart-pumping rides, several exclusive shows and attractions delight crowds. See the Majesty of Christmas, a musical reenactment of the nativity scene, and the magical tree lighting ceremony. You can also ride the Holiday Express train and pose for a picture with Santa and the Singing Saps, a family of Christmas trees performing all your favorite holiday songs. If there’s a chill in the night air, warm up with hot chocolate and warm cinnamon bread.

Location: Six Flags Fiesta Texas, 17000 IH-10 West.

Hours: Hours vary during the Holiday in the Park season, which runs from Nov. 19 through Dec. 23. Check the park calendar for details.

Cost: Single-day tickets start at $49.99. Gold, platinum, and diamond passes are also available.

Santa’s Railroad Wonderland

When the sun sets during the holiday season, the Texas Transportation Museum becomes a thrilling festive attraction. Stroll around the grounds and enjoy the Christmas decorations adorning the historic depot, its trains, and model engines while sipping on hot chocolate. Santa will take time out of his toy-making duties to visit the museum and pose for photos.

Location: Texas Transportation Museum, 11731 Wetmore Road.

Hours: 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Dec. 3, 4, 10, 11, 17, and 18.

Cost: $12 for adults and $10 for children ages 4-12. Admission is free for children under 4.

WinterFest SA

It rarely snows in San Antonio, but 50,000 pounds of snow delivered from the North Pole will make sure WinterFest , a carnival event held at North Central Baptist Hospital, feels like a winter wonderland. There’ll be carnival rides, interactive children’s activities, photo opportunities with Santa Claus, and vendors selling their wares to help you finish your holiday shopping. Local school and community groups will keep crowds entertained with performances throughout the event.

Location: North Central Baptist Hospital, 520 Madison Oak Drive.

Hours: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 3.

Cost: $10 all-access pass includes rides and Santa photos. $5 general admission.

Winter Artisan Show

If Santa didn’t bring you everything on your Christmas wish list, you might fill the gaps at the Winter Artisan Show. The winter edition of San Antonio’s popular markets will feature more than 40 vendors selling their handcrafted wares. Chat with the makers and browse their unique selection of pottery, jewelry, paintings, textiles, and woodwork.

Location: Downtown River Walk, 602 E. Commerce St.

Hours: Jan 13 and 14 from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Jan. 15. from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Cost: Free.

Winter Dragon Race

Hit the new year running at the Winter Dragon Race. With events ranging from the big 21K half-marathon to the 5K for adults and a short race for “little dragons”, there’s a course for all fitness levels. The big race might sound daunting, but the event hoodies, finisher medal, and beanie for the first 100 registered should serve as extra motivation. Running tracks take in the scenic Pearsall Park and parts of San Antonio. A complimentary brisket plate and hot coffee or cocoa will be waiting for you at the finishing line.

Location: Leave from Pearsall Park, 5102 Old Pearsall Road.

Hours: Races start at 8 a.m. on Jan. 22.

Cost: From $40 for adult races and $10 for the kids event. Register before mid-December for early-bird discounts.
